How to Check Your Vehicle’s Total Miles

To get the right coverage and pricing for your vehicle service contract, we need to know your car’s total odometer miles — not the trip meter!

What is the odometer?

The odometer shows the total number of miles your vehicle has driven since it was brand new. This number helps us figure out which coverage plans are available and how much they cost.

What is the trip meter?

The trip meter is a separate counter you can reset anytime. It’s usually used to track how far you’ve driven during a single trip. It does not show total miles and should not be used for coverage quotes.

How to find the total odometer miles:

  1. Start your car – the dashboard screen will light up.
  2. Look at the numbers displayed near the speedometer.
  3. You may see two numbers:
    • One labeled “Odometer” – this is the total vehicle mileage.
    • One labeled “Trip” or “Trip A/B” – this is your trip meter.
  4. Make sure you write down the odometer number, not the trip meter.

Example:

If your dashboard shows:

  • Odometer: 72,458
  • Trip A: 154.3

You should report 72,458 miles — that’s your total vehicle mileage.
